Police responded to a 911 call regarding a stabbing inside of 7 Star Jamaica Deli Corp., located at 214-57 Jamaica Ave., at approximately 5:24 a.m. on May 6. Upon their arrival, officers found a 41-year-old Jonathan Gantt, of 102nd Avenue, with a stab wound to his leg.
EMS arrived at the scene and transported Gantt to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A police spokesperson told QNS that there was a dispute between Gantt and the store clerk before the stabbing. Gantt allegedly threw a bag of peanuts at the clerk, who came out from behind the counter and engaged in a physical confrontation with Gantt, according to law enforcement sources.
Once the fighting began, a 68-year-old man entered the premises and stabbed Gantt before fleeing the scene, according to a police spokesperson.
He was apprehended at a nearby building at 214-53 Jamaica Ave., the police spokesperson said.
Charges are pending, but the spokesperson could not confirm what the charges would be at the time of publication.
