A Brookville man was taken into custody on Monday, Aug. 21, and charged with the 2022 murder of his neighbor in Springfield Gardens.

Homicide detectives from the 105th Precinct in Queens Village went to the 222nd Street home of 23-year-old Shyquell Jervey and arrested him in connection with the fatal shooting of Louis Niles, who lived a couple of blocks away on 224th Street in the same neighborhood just east of Springfield Park.

On the night of Wednesday, Nov. 23, officer from the 105th Precinct responded to a 911 call of a man shot in the vicinity of 145th Drive and 184th Street on the western side of Springfield Park when they discovered Niles slumped over behind the wheel of a 2018 Nissan Maxima, unconscious and unresponsive, with gunshot wounds to his chest, according to authorities. The vehicle had struck a telephone pole at the location before coming to a rest. EMS responded to the scene and rushed Niles to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

A homicide investigation determined that Jervey was a passenger inside the vehicle when he allegedly opened fire at point blank range, before leaving Niles fatally wounded inside the car. An NYPD spokeswoman could not say what motivated the fatal shooting.

Jervey was booked at the 105th Precinct, where he was charged with murder and two counts of criminal possession of a loaded firearm, according to the NYPD. The homicide investigation remains ongoing.
