The Detectives Endowment Association (DEA) has announced its endorsement of Flushing Council Member Sandra Ung for re-election in the upcoming 2023 general election.
The DEA, which represents 18,000 active and retired NYPD detectives, signified their trust in Ung’s commitment to public safety and her strong support for the city’s law enforcement agencies.
“We are proud to endorse Sandra Ung for re-election in 2023. She understands the issues the city faces and the importance of keeping her community safe,” DEA President Paul DiGiacomo said. “Sandra is the right choice for Council District 20.”
District 20 includes the neighborhoods of Flushing, Mitchell-Linden, Murray Hill, Queensboro Hill and Fresh Meadows.
Ung expressed her gratitude for the endorsement.
“I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of the Detectives’ Endowment Association,” Ung said. “The men and women who serve in our law enforcement agencies put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe. I am committed to working closely with them to address the challenges our city faces and to ensure that our police officers have the support they need to succeed.”
Ung’s efforts to address critical issues such as crime reduction, community policing and public safety funding include requesting more police for Flushing’s 109th Precinct and a significant allocation to expand the number of ARGUS cameras in the 109.
The Detectives’ Endowment Association’s endorsement of Ung comes at a crucial time when the city faces complex public safety challenges. Ung said she remains committed to her ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and strengthen the partnership between law enforcement and the wider Flushing community.
Ung is slated to face off against Yu-Ching Pai (Republican/Conservative Party/ Medical Freedom Party/Common Sense Party) and Dany Chen (Better Flushing Party) in the Nov. 7 general election.
