A fashion and gift shop in Flushing has sold a $1 million winning lottery ticket, lottery officials said.
The store, United Fashion Gift Shop, is located at 41-17 Kissena Blvd., on a bustling street in the heart of Flushing. Employees there sold the winning ticket for the Powerball draw on Wednesday, Oct. 5.
The lucky holder of the ticket managed to match the winning numbers of 9, 35, 54, 63, 64 and the power ball number 1 to scoop the major winnings of $1 million – the second prize in the jackpot.
Kathy Bao, 32, the manager of United Fashion Gift Shop joked that she also bought a Powerball ticket for the same draw, but she is of course happy for the winner.
“I also bought a ticket for the Powerball but I didn’t win. We have a lot of customers, so the more people that are buying the tickets, the higher chance there is of someone winning. We have extremely loyal customers, so I am really happy that our store sold the winning ticket,” Bao said.
Bao, who is originally from China, said that they have four machines in operation selling tickets, so it was most likely that full time staff member Liu sold the ticket.
She said that her staff work extremely hard and, as long as everyone knows what they are doing, everything runs smoothly.
The atmosphere in the shop the next day was full of excitement. There were a flurry of customers at the machines and asking staff for tickets, eager to be the next winner of $1 million.
The shop has been open for 20 years. Bao has been the manager for the past three years. She said that the shop has sold many winning tickets over the years and there are posters across the shop boasting their achievements.
The top jackpot prize will now roll over to a whopping $1.4 billion, with the next draw taking place on Saturday, Oct. 7.
A winning lottery ticket of any amount may be claimed up to one year from the date of the drawing – so get checking those tickets!
