Utilizing funding secured by Assemblywoman Nily Rozic, Commonpoint Queens was able to prepare and deliver meals for homebound seniors, among other holiday initiatives this past weekend.
Rozic helped volunteers prepare dishes such as apple crumble, challah bread and cranberry sauce at the Commonpoint Queens Sam Field Center in Little Neck on Sunday, Nov. 19. The prepackaged meals were delivered to families in need ahead of Thanksgiving.
“I am extra grateful this holiday season to be able to give back to our neighbors,” said Rozic. “I am always thrilled to partner with and fund Commonpoint Queens as their ability to provide for so many and spread the spirit of giving and togetherness is never-failing.”
Rozic secured $50,000 in state funding for Commonpoint Queens, a nonprofit organization that provides programs and services at 81 locations across the borough. Their mission is to enhance the quality of life for residents of all ages and backgrounds through wide ranging social services.
At the Youth Opportunity Hub in Jamaica, a pizza and crafts party was held for migrant families on Nov. 19. Attendees also went home with prepackaged holiday meals. Throughout the weekend at both locations, volunteers knitted fleece scarves for Commonpoint’s holiday coat drive for high school students in need.
“It is incredibly meaningful to our organization and community that Assemblywoman Rozic not only supported us financially, but also went above and beyond as a volunteer to make the holidays more special for those in need,” said Danielle Ellman, CEO of Commonpoint Queens. “We are so grateful for the Assemblywoman’s partnership and commitment to helping us help others.”
