A 63-year-old woman from Lower Manhattan was struck and killed by a motorist as she rode an electric scooter near Flushing Meadows Corona Park on Wednesday morning.

Mei Ying Lan, who lived on John Street a few blocks away from the South Street Seaport, was riding along College Point Boulevard near the Al Oerter Recreation Center in Flushing and making a left-hand turn onto Blossom Avenue at around 10 a.m. when she was struck from behind by the driver of a Honda CRV that was traveling in the same direction, according to the NYPD.

Police from the 109th Precinct in Flushing responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision and found the victim lying on the roadway. EMS rushed her to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Queens where she was pronounced dead. The 41-year-old woman who was behind the wheel of the Honda CRV remained at the scene and was not arrested. The investigation by the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad remains ongoing.
