A new Lidl supermarket will open in Fresh Meadows this week as part of the value-focused grocer’s broader expansion in New York City.

An official grand opening, marked by a ribbon cutting, will be held on Wednesday, July 31, at 7:30 a.m. Representatives from local elected officials and the Lidl team will be in attendance to unveil the highly awaited new space to the community.

The first 100 shoppers in line will receive a gift card ranging from $5 to $100, according to the retailer. Employees will also distribute free product samples and Lidl swag.

Throughout the opening weekend, the retailer will donate $1 to City Harvest and the Food Bank for New York City for every shopper who signs up for the myLidl app and sets the Fresh Meadows location as their store.

Lidl already has Queens open locations in Elmhurst, Astoria and Glen Oaks, as well as over a dozen markets across Long Island. This new spot at 187-04 Horace Harding Expy. was formerly a Michaels and offers plenty of parking.

Local residents have been highly anticipating the opening of the new supermarket known for its affordable and fresh food options. Like at other locations, there will be a fresh bakery section, new organic and grass-fed protein offerings as well as a “Middle of Lidl” section with rotating weekly specials on general merchandise.

“At Lidl, we are committed to bringing fresh, high-quality food to communities at affordable prices. By opening our doors in Fresh Meadows, we are thrilled to continue Lidl’s expansion in New York City and look forward to bringing exciting new products to the customers in the area,” said Or Raitses, Lidl’s Senior Director of Real Estate for the North Region.

The German retailer prides itself on helping customers save money with private label products priced at 40% less on average than national brands. It is frequently listed as one of the top ten grocers in the country for its wide selection of value products.

The new will also create approximately 40 jobs for local residents that come with full benefits starting at $19 an hour. The store will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.
