The Girl Scouts of Greater New York is launching its fall recruitment season. Queens girls from kindergarten through 12th grade are invited to join a troop or become independent Girl Scouts. Parents and guardians are also encouraged to volunteer by starting a local group or participating in other volunteer events.
The Girl Scouts of Greater New York have over 265 troops across Queens, providing opportunities for girls to participate in enriching activities, ranging from volunteering to planting trees to nurturing STEM skills through robotics.
Karen Lundgard, chief operations officer of the Girl Scouts of Greater New York, said the organization offers endless possibilities for the growth and enrichment of girls and volunteers. “The back-to-school season is the perfect time for girls to become part of our community of friendship, fun and adventure, and for caring adults to make a difference as volunteers, empowering our girls to be their most authentic selves,” Lundgard said in a statement.
There are multiple options for girls to join Girl Scouts. Interested members can join a troop and meet regularly to complete community service projects and earn badges. Girls can also participate as individually registered members, known as Juliettes. Independent membership provides a flexible schedule, allowing participants to earn badges, go camping and attend events based on their own schedules. Interested volunteers can also sign up to start troops in their neighborhoods.
