Seniors across the world’s borough are invited to get active at the Queens Public Library, Mitchell Linden branch.

Assembly Member Ron Kim has provided a grant to offer free Chair Yoga classes for older adults at the Queens Public Library’s Mitchell Linden branch, located at 31-32 Union St. The library is easily accessible via several bus lines, including the Q16, Q20A, B, and Q44-SBS.

The chair yoga classes, led by certified instructor Mirelle Netelle, will take place at 11 a.m. on six Saturdays from Nov. 2 through Dec. 14.

Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga practiced while seated or using a chair for support, making it ideal for older adults or those with mobility challenges. It aims to improve flexibility, balance, and strength while reducing joint stiffness and promoting relaxation, without requiring floor exercises.

Netelle will guide seniors through gentle yoga movements designed to strengthen both mind and body.

In a statement, Assembly Member Kim said, “The class will provide a great opportunity to move your body, quiet your mind, and forge relationships with other participants. The Chair Yoga series is entirely free and part of the wonderful programming offered to you at the Queens Public Library.”
