Police from the 103rd Precinct in Jamaica are looking for a suspect who savagely stabbed a 43-year-old man who refused to give him a cigarette in broad daylight last week.

The victim was sitting in his car in the vicinity of Lowe Court and 148th Street after dropping off a relative in Jamaica just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23, when the man grew agitated after his request was ignored. The assailant pulled out a knife, leaned through the driver’s side window, and stabbed the victim multiple times in his face and body, police said Monday.

A good Samaritan intervened and chased the suspect away. He was last seen walking eastbound on Lowe Court toward 149th Street. The victim was transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center by private means, where he was listed in stable condition, police said.

The NYPD released surveillance images of the suspect as he walked along Lowe Court and described him as having a slim build. He wore a plaid long-sleeved button-down shirt, black shorts, and dark sandals.

Anyone with information regarding this assault investigation is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org or on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) @NYPDTips.
