Police from the 103rd Precinct in Jamaica are looking for a gunman who shot a teenager in broad daylight on Thursday, Nov. 7 and remains at large.

The shooting went down just after 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of Archer Avenue and 153rd Street in Downtown Jamaica, a block south of Rufus King Park, when the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired, striking the 18-year-old man in the left shoulder, police said Tuesday. EMS responded to the crime scene and rushed the victim to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.

The gunman fled the location on foot in an unknown direction.

The NYPD released a surveillance image of the suspect on Tuesday and described him as having a dark complexion in his late teens or early 20s. He wore a dark vest over a blue hooded sweatshirt.

Through Nov. 10, the 103rd Precinct has reported 692 felony assaults so far in 2024, 110 more than the 582 reported at the same point last year, an increase of 18.9%, according to the most recent CompStat report. Shooting incidents are also on the rise in the precinct, with 18 reported so far this year, seven more than the 11 reported at the same point in 2023, an increase of 63.9%, according to CompStat. Through Nov. 10, there have been 22 shooting victims reported in the precinct, 11 more than the 11 reported at the same point last year, and an increase of 100%, according to CompStat.
