Senator Joseph Addabbo and his team are preparing to deliver seven large boxes of winter coats to New York Cares, a nonprofit organization dedicated to mobilizing volunteers and resources to meet critical needs across New York City.

As temperatures continue to drop, this successful community coat drive comes at a crucial time for those in need.

Addabbo’s annual coat drive began in mid-November and ran until nearly the end of December, during which time generous constituents donated gently used coats by dropping them off at his offices in Woodhaven and Middle Village.

“Every year I am proud to work with New York Cares on this important endeavor to help those in need stay warm and comfortable this winter, but it would not be possible without the kindness of the contributors who donate the coats,” Addabbo stated.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to those who looked through their closets and donated what they could. Together, I believe we are making a significant difference.”

New York Cares provides year-round volunteer opportunities, including educating children, teens, and adults, serving those impacted by hunger and homelessness, providing health and wellness for seniors and other vulnerable groups, and caring for public parks, community gardens, and green spaces.

The Senator has contributed to the organization’s 36th annual city-wide campaign to collect and distribute 85,000 warm winter coats. The campaign has raised over $360,000 so far.

Addabbo represents District 15, which covers central and southern Queens, including most of the neighborhoods of Ozone Park, Woodhaven, Glendale, Maspeth, Middle Village, Rego Park, Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Richmond Hill, Lindenwood, South Ozone Park and South Richmond Hill.

He has made it a tradition to support local charitable drives during the holiday season. In recent years, he has organized coat drives, food collection efforts, and toy drives to provide for under-resourced families.

Historically, his holiday season initiatives have seen a strong turnout, with local residents often bringing in dozens of bags of essential items.

The New York Cares coat drive is still seeking donations and volunteers as freezing weather continues to plague the city. You can find more information here.
