Senator Joseph Addabbo is continuing his commitment to health and community services with a series of upcoming events that aim to educate, support and connect residents across his district.

From free health screenings to public resource fairs and transportation access, Addabbo is offering multiple opportunities for constituents to benefit from vital services close to home.

On Sunday, June 1, Addabbo will sponsor a free Mammogram Screening service in partnership with the American-Italian Cancer Foundation. From 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the foundation’s Mammogram Bus will be stationed outside of Addabbo’s District Office at 84-16 Jamaica Ave. in Woodhaven

Women who meet eligibility requirements can receive clinical breast exams and mammograms at no cost. Although pre-registration is encouraged to secure an appointment, walk-ins will be accepted on a limited basis.

“Regular testing is crucial for early detection of cancer, especially breast cancer, as early diagnosis can be life-saving,” Addabbo said. “I’m proud to sponsor this event ahead of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. Thanks to the American-Italian Cancer Foundation for bringing this valuable, free service back to my district.”

To qualify for the screening, women must currently reside in New York City. Those with health insurance between the ages of 40 and 79 are eligible, while uninsured women between 50 and 79 can also participate. Additionally, participants must not have received a mammogram within the past 12 months.

The program is designed to accommodate uninsured patients, and there are no co-payments or deductibles. Appointments can be made by calling the American-Italian Cancer Foundation at 1-877-628-9090.

The weekend’s outreach continues with a major community event the day before, on Saturday, May 31. From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Addabbo and Community Board 9 will co-host the Third Annual Autism and Developmental Disability Walk and Resource Fair at Phil “Scooter” Rizzuto Park, also known as Smokey Oval Park, in Richmond Hill

The event invites all community members to walk around the perimeter of the park—four laps in total—followed by the distribution of educational materials, resources, and complimentary snacks and beverages. If weather conditions require rescheduling, the rain date is set for June 8 at the same location and time.

“Autism manifests in many ways, and each person affected is unique. Their families and loved ones deserve understanding, compassion, and tailored support,” Addabbo remarked.

“That’s why events like this are so essential—they remind us of our shared responsibility to care for and support one another. But our efforts go beyond just autism; we’re also walking to raise awareness of other developmental disabilities that touch so many lives here in Queens, across the country, and around the world. Together, we can make a difference.”

Sherry Algredo, Chairwoman of Community Board 9, who is also the mother of a son with autism, expressed her appreciation for the continued support of this initiative.

“Last year’s success showed how much this event is needed in our community. It’s more than a walk—it’s a chance to connect, share struggles, and advocate for better services,” she added.

“I know the challenges families face, and I’m committed to raising awareness until all have access to the support they need. Thank you, Senator Addabbo, for your support in making this happen.”

In another effort to provide localized support, Addabbo is bringing the MTA MetroCard Van to his Middle Village Office at 66-85 73rd Place on Thursday, May 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Mobile Sales Vehicle will assist residents with Reduced-Fare applications, MetroCard balance transfers, replacement cards, and other transit-related issues. It should be noted that these services do not accept credit cards, but residents can still pay with cash or transfer value from Reduced-Fare MetroCards.

“Many parts of my district are transportation deserts with limited public transit options, making access to MetroCard services difficult,” Addabbo said. “Even near train stations, residents often lack assistance for transfers or reporting lost cards. I’m proud to bring MetroCard services to Middle Village to support our community.”

Earlier this month, Addabbo also celebrated a milestone—the 15th anniversary of his Middle Village Office. Held on May 3, the event drew residents and community members to reflect on the office’s ongoing role as a neighborhood resource hub. Guests enjoyed refreshments and conversations with Addabbo and his staff, with many offering ideas to improve the district.

“I am truly grateful for the support and trust of our community over the past 15 years,” Addabbo said. “This milestone reminds us of how important it is to stay connected and responsive to the needs of our neighbors. I look forward to continuing our work together to make our neighborhoods stronger and more vibrant for years to come.”

Both of Senator Addabbo’s offices remain accessible year-round, with 24/7 live operator services available to constituents. The Middle Village Office can be reached at 718-497-1630, and the District Office in Woodhaven at 718-738-1111.
