A small Long Island City garage surrounded by new development will be facing the wrecking ball.
Demolition permits have been filed for the one-story garage at 27-19 Thomson Ave. in Court Square. The garage, in a lot area of 3,600 square feet, is across the street from The Forge, Arris Lofts, and a block away from the Citigroup Building at One Court Square.
The garage is currently the site of “Manny Auto Electric”, a longstanding auto repair and diagnostic shop.
The shop owner was not available to speak to the LIC Post when reached by telephone.
Records show, however, that the prior owner of the property, Lema Properties, sold the site to Thomson Development for $6.85 million on July 3.
The new owner of the site is listed as Tom Wu, who is also the developer behind “5 Court Square”, the upcoming 11-story building set to rise directly behind the garage and in the works since 2014.
It is unclear if the site where the garage stands will be part of the 5 Court Square development.
Wu was unable to be reached by telephone, and did not immediately respond to questions sent via e-mail about the demolition permits and project site.
