Astorians flocked to Astoria Park on Thursday, June 29, to snag a spot on the Great Lawn for the Central Astoria Local Development Coalition’s 2017 Independence Celebration. The crowd was huge, but it still felt like a tight-knit community coming together for a neighborhood event, with music from the Queens Symphony Orchestra and a gorgeous view of the Hell Gate Bridge.
Then, on the Fourth of July, all of New York City seemed to converge on Gantry Plaza State Park in Long Island City to watch the sky fill with fireworks from the Macy’s show taking place along the East River, with the Empire State Building lit up in red, white and blue in the background.
