The owner of Neptune Diner, a popular establishment on Astoria Boulevard, has dismissed rumors that it is closing down and said that the diner had signed a five-year lease.
Rumors have been circulating that the popular diner located at 31-05 Astoria Blvd was set to close its doors for good, but Peter Katsihtis, the diner’s owner, said that there was no truth to them.
Katsihtis said that the diner had recently signed a five-year lease and that it would not be closing down anytime soon.
The diner signed a 35-year lease in 1984 which expires on Aug. 31 and Katishtis said that this led to the circulation of rumors of the diner’s imminent closure. He said that the recent sale of the property also contributed to the speculation.
Kathsihtis said that the property’s ownership had changed hands, but that the new landlords have agreed to the lease extension.
The site that is home to Neptune Diner went up for sale in February 2018 along with two adjacent lots, casting doubts over the diner’s future. The property was sold for $10.35 million on Oct. 30, 2018.
There was also no option to extend the 35-year lease beyond Aug.31, 2019 at the time.
