Shannon Pot to be bulldozed again

Feb. 3, 2016 Staff Report

They just can’t escape Long Island City’s real estate frenzy.

Two years after the Shannon Pot was forced to relocate due to development, plans for an apartment building over its Court Square property were filed with the City.

Construction plans for a seven-story, 20-unit residence at 21-59 44th Drive were filed with the Department of Buildings this week.

According to the documents, retail will occupy the first floor and a community facility will share the second floor with residential units. Floors three through seven will hold residential units.

The Shannon Pot is an Irish bar and grill that moved to this address in January 2014.

It was forced to relocate from its former spot on Jackson Avenue and Davis Street, steps from 5Pointz, before those buildings were demolished to make way for developer Jerry Wolkoff’s new residential towers.

Patrizia Cimino of Stoa Design Studio, which is designing the project, said she was aware of the Shannon Pot. She could not speak to the specifics of what might occupy the new development’s first floor.

“We just know it’s going to be a retail space,” she said, but later added, “I guess [the Shannon Pot] can come back if they want to.”

The Shannon Pot’s owner could not be reached for comment on this story.
