Pedestrian struck and killed on Cross Island Parkway: Police

A man was fatally struck by an SUV on the Cross Island Parkway in Bellerose Saturday morning, the NYPD said.

A 69-year-old man had been driving a 2011 Ford Expedition on the highway at Union Turnpike at about 7 a.m. when the vehicle struck the pedestrian, authorities said.

The unidentified man was taken to North Shore-Long Island Jewish Healthcare System, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The NYPD’s Highway Patrol Collision Investigation Squad was investigating the man’s death, the NYPD said.
