Bayside man is facing multiple charges after allegedly burglarizing two local businesses last month, including Pesso’s Italian ice stand.

Hossam Arafa, 36, was arrested on May 31 and charged with burglary, criminal mischief and grand larceny. Arafa has 12 prior arrests, law enforcement sources said, and is due back in court on June 13.

According to a criminal complaint provided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, on May 22 at around 1 a.m., Arafa broke into New Love Nails at 203rd Street and 35th Avenue through a rear door. The suspect then used tools to break into an ATM, which contained $2,980, stole $50 from a tip jar and spilled detergent onto the floor of the business.

Prosecutors said that Arafa then broke into Pesso’s Ices & Ice Cream, which is two doors away, through the entrance door. Surveillance footage shows the suspect using tools to open the register, which contained $830, and placing the cash into a white garbage bag found under the counter.

Arafa also stole two Bluetooth speakers and unplugged several freezers, leaving the contents melted, the complaint notes. Damages sustained at the property are estimated at $1,500.

Both shop owners told prosecutors they did not know Arafa.

The NYPD’s Queens North Grand Larceny Division and 111th Precinct investigated the case.
