Six new eateries inspired by the tastes of New York are coming to LaGuardia’s state-of-the-art Terminal B, according to Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Cuomo announced on July 25 the names of the first set of restaurants that will debut later this year — 5 Boroughs Food Emporium, Osteria Fusco by renowned chef Scott Conant, Shake Shack, Irving Farm Coffee Roasters, Kingside and La Chula by Chef Julian Medina.
The restaurant selection was born out of research and feedback from travelers who shared what they wanted out of a 21st-century airport. Research was led by LaGuardia Gateway Partners, the private entity operating and redeveloping LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B.
“As LaGuardia Airport transforms into a modern, global gateway, it is critical that travelers have the opportunity to taste some of the best local dining New York has to offer,” the governor said. “From a Hudson Valley coffee roaster to a Mexico City-style taqueria born in East Harlem, the new Terminal B will highlight iconic restaurateurs and give travelers who pass through it an authentic taste of what it’s like to be a New Yorker.”
Exclusive offerings from the six restaurants will be provided by airport specialists HMSHost and SSP America, who will use locally sourced products from in-state businesses. In addition, the operators of the six restaurants will partner with Airport Concession Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (ACDBEs) to let small businesses showcase their new products and grow their brands.
“These new high-quality dining options will not only give travelers a true variety of New York tastes but be a critical component of delivering a world-class customer experience,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton.
The new dining options are part of the larger $8 billion comprehensive airport redevelopment plan that the governor announced in 2015, 80 percent of which is funded through private financing and existing passenger fees. In addition to a new Terminal B, the redevelopment will include a new Terminal C, which will replace the existing C and D terminals, an improved roadway system and new parking infrastructure.
Terminal B’s eastern-most concourse is slated to open later this year, along with the six restaurants. When complete, the terminal will feature over 50 new restaurants, shops and services that showcase locally based amenities as well as a mix of regional and national brands.
