An elderly pedestrian died near his home in Queens Village on Wednesday after being struck by a car, police reported.
Officers from the 105th Precinct responded to a 911 call at 6:02 p.m. on Nov. 28 about the incident at the corner of Francis Lewis Boulevard and 112nd Road.
Upon arriving, the officers observed paramedics providing emergency care to the victim, Albert Poyser, 82, who suffered head trauma. Poyser, who lived on Francis Lewis Boulevard in Queens Village, was sent to Jamaica Hospital where he died.
According to information obtained by police, an 85-year-old man was driving his vehicle northbound on Francis Lewis Boulevard and struck Poyser as he attempted to cross the street from east to west at 112th Road.
The 85-year-old driver remained at the scene; his vehicle did not suffer major damage. No arrests were made, and based on a preliminary report, police do not suspect any criminality.
Law enforcement agents noted that the location of the collision had no provisions (such as a painted crosswalk) for pedestrians to cross Francis Lewis Boulevard.
The NYPD’s Highway Patrol Collision Investigation Squad is conducting the ongoing investigation.
