A man cloned the debit cards of two people to withdraw thousands in cash from Queens ATMs earlier this year, police said.
The suspect allegedly took out a total of $2,700 from a Ridgewood Savings Banks in Queens on June 11 and June 24.
The victims, a 28-year-old Queens woman and a 61-year-old Staten Island woman, were in possession of their debit cards at time of the withdrawals, police said.
When a debit or credit card is cloned, a person obtains the card’s electronic information, often using a skimming device, and copies it onto a fake card.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or can text their tips to CRIMES (274637), then enter TIP577. All calls are strictly confidential.
