The Rock Health and Fitness, located at 21-15 31st St., is moving across 31st Street to make way for a small-format Target store.

The Rock will relocate to the cellar of the new development going up at 22-06 31st St, according to Steve Rabinoff, the architect behind the new building. Rabinoff said that The Rock is required to move because the business “lost their lease.”

The manager of The Rock, Dora Arsenis, confirmed that the fitness club is relocating but said that the move is not likely until next year. The club’s owner did not return a request for comment.

Target announced last week that it will be moving into a new development that will be constructed on the site where The Rock is located. The existing building on the site—which also includes stores located between 22-11 and 22-25 31st St.—is slated to be demolished, the Astoria Post first reported last week.

Demolition and building permits for the upcoming Target have not yet been filed with the Department of Buildings.

The new Rock Health and Fitness will occupy 11,551 gross square feet in the building’s cellar. The building will also include a T.J. Maxx.

Like the existing gym, the new space will be open 24 hours from Monday to Friday and 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
