WHITESTONE — A father was arrested last Thursday night after his 9-year-old son ignited fireworks in their home, injuring the child, police said.
The child was taken to New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens and was listed in stable condition for injuries to his hand, said Det. Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman. The police said the boy suffered injuries to three of his right hand fingers after he lit fireworks that were in the house.
The father, Wayne Falalciglia, of 150-51 14th Rd., was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, police said.
Elderly man found dead at World’s Fair Marina
WILLETS POINT — A 73-year-old man was found dead Monday afternoon in a lot next to the World’s Fair Marina, police said.
Officers responded to a call for an unconscious man about 4:40 p.m. Monday at Northern Boulevard and 126th Street, said Det. Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman.
Chew said the man was pronounced dead on the scene. The medical examiner was determining the cause of death.
Cash, phone cards, cigarettes taken in Glen Oaks burglary
GLEN OAKS — A candy store on Union Turnpike was burglarized Tuesday morning and cigarettes, phone cards and cash were taken, police said.
The burglary occurred around 4 a.m. Tuesday at 265-15 Union Tpke., said Det. Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman. The burglar or burglars broke the front locks of the store and, once inside, stole $6,000 in cigarettes, $13,000 worth of phone cards and $4,700 in cash, police said.
86-year-old woman abused in S. Jamaica
SOUTH JAMAICA — An elderly woman was sexually abused early Tuesday morning while she was sleeping, police said.
The incident happened around 12:50 a.m. in the vicinity of 115th Street and 149th Avenue, said Det. Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman.
The woman, 86, was asleep when the assailant, a man in his 40s, forced his way into the home and sexually abused her, police said.
Police were investigating.
Forest Hills man robbed, slashed coming home
FOREST HILLS — A 41-year-old man returning to his apartment Sunday night was robbed by two men, who then slashed him with a knife, police said.
The robbery took place about 6:50 p.m. Sunday as the victim was entering his Burns Street apartment, said Det. Madelyne Galindo, a police spokeswoman.
The two assailants demanded that the victim hand over a bag he was carrying which the police said contained “a large amount of currency and jewelry.”
The two then slashed the victim with a knife and fled in a car driven by an accomplice, police said.
The victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital for a laceration, and was treated and released, police said.
Three hit, rob off-duty cop in officer’s 129th St. home
SOUTH OZONE PARK — A man and a woman posing as police officers entered the 129th Street home of an off-duty officer Sunday night, striking him in the head, stealing the officer’s handgun, identification guard and badge, as well as cash and jewelry, police said.
The crime occurred about 6:25 p.m., said Det. Madelyne Galindo, a police spokeswoman. The pair — a 24-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man — knocked on the victim’s door and identified themselves as police officers, police said.
Once inside, a third robber entered the home and walked up to the second floor, police said. The three stole a 9MM handgun, an identification card and badge from the 27-year-old Nassau County police officer.
A 59-year-old woman who was also in the house was not injured, police said.
The robbers also took $60 in cash and $10,000 worth of jewelry, police said.
Arrested man tries suicide at Queens Central Booking
KEW GARDENS — A 35-year-old-man who was arrested Monday afternoon tried to commit suicide later in the day while he was being held in Queens Central Booking, police said.
The man, who refused to give his name to police, was taken to Queens General Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, said Det. Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman.
Police said the man had been arrested earlier that day on charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance, and was taken to Queens Central Booking at 125-01 Queens Blvd., to await arraignment. While in custody, the man tried to commit suicide, Chew said.
Queens Boulevard store burglarized early Friday
KEW GARDENS — A stationery store was burglarized and cash and cigarettes were taken Friday morning, police said.
The store, at 118-14 Queens Blvd., was broken into about 5:20 a.m., said Det. Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman. The front locks of the entrance were cut, and the door was broken into, Chew said. Police said that $2,000 in cash and 50 cartons of cigarettes were stolen.
Workers tied up, cash taken from Jackson Heights store
JACKSON HEIGHTS — Two men were charged Friday morning with tying up the workers at a check-cashing store and then stealing $60,000 in cash, police said.
Police arrested Erickson Perez, 30, and Tony Aponte, 39, moments after a passerby saw them leaving the store Friday at 35-05 Junction Blvd., said Det. Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman.
The men allegedly forced their way into the store as it was opening Friday about 6 a.m., Chew said. The men are accused of holding up the employees at gunpoint, then tying them up, the police said.
A passerby saw the two men leaving the store and called police. Shortly after that, the two men were arrested, and $60,000 was recovered, police said.
The workers were not reported hurt.
Two charged with stabbing man in dispute in Astoria
ASTORIA — Two men were charged Friday night with stabbing a man three times during an argument, police said.
The stabbing occurred about 11:40 p.m. on the corner of 32nd Street and Broadway, police said.
The victim, a 28-year-old man, got into an argument with the two and was stabbed three times in his abdomen, police said. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital and was in stable condition Friday night.
The men — Eli Romero, 19, and Jesse Romero, whose age was unknown, both of Jersey City — were each charged with first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon, said Det. Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman. A knife was recovered from one of the men, Chew said.
60-year-old man charged with shooting 58-year-old
ASTORIA — A 60-year-old man was in police custody Friday night, charged with shooting a man in the chin during an argument, police said.
Joseph Barnes, whose address was unknown, was charged with assault, said Det. Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman.
The shooting occurred about 11:45 p.m. Friday in front of 12-17 31st Ave., police said.
The 58-year-old victim was shot once in the chin during the dispute, police said. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital and was in stable condition Friday night, police said.
Transit worker slashed on leg at station bathroom
WESTERN QUEENS – A transit worker was slashed on the leg by a homeless man at about 2 a.m. Thursday, police said.
The worker, Carl Safforf was leaving a bathroom in a subway station on the F line, said Det. Robert Samuel, a police spokesman. Police did not immediately say which station it was.
. Police said Safforf was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where he was in stable condition.
The unidentified homeless man, referred to as John Doe, was arrested and charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon, Samuel said.
Gilmore Street man arrested in shooting
EAST ELMHURST — An East Elmhurst man was in police custody Friday morning, charged with shooting a man in early February, the police said.
Eddie Washington of 27-33 Gilmore St., was arrested Friday and charged with second-degree assault, said Det. Carolyn Chew, a police spokeswoman.
The shooting happened about 6:40 p.m. Feb. 2, police said. The victim, a 25-year-old man, was standing on the corner of 101st Street and Northern Boulevard when he heard four gunshots. He then felt a pain in his right shoulder and discovered that he had been shot, police said.
The victim was taken to New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens and was listed in stable condition at the time of the shooting.
