The Our Lady of the Snows Bantam boys basketball team, the defending Diocesan champions, trailed Monastery by nine points with under a minute to play, with everyone was thinking that the game was over — everyone except the team that is.
John Fauth hit a three to cut Monastery’s lead to six points with 41 seconds to go and Kevin Cheddie hit a trey to make it a one possession game seconds later. Amazingly, Snows got the ball back and with 10 seconds left on the clock, Frankie Sadicario hit for another three to tie the game.
Snows won 43-40 in overtime against the undefeated Monastery Team. The first four minutes of the first quarter were scoreless, with
both teams playing outstanding defense. At the end of the first quarter, Snows trailed 6-3, with a free throw from Frank Sadicario and a basket by Kevin Cheddie.
In the second quarter, Snows tried to shoot there way back, with Kevin Cheddie hitting two three-point shots and a basket, Jay Hausdorf scoring a basket and John Fauth hitting a free throw. But Monastery still held the lead 18-14, at halftime.
In the third quarter, Snows and Monastery exchanged baskets, with Monastery still holding onto a three-point lead. In the fourth quarter, with the Snows fans cheering them on, Snows showed Monastery why they are the defending Diocesan champions. With 41 seconds left and Snows down by nine points, Snows made their move.
In the overtime, Monastery scored two points at the line, but with 13
seconds left, Kevin Cheddie hit his fourth three-point shot of the game, to not
only seal the win for Snows, but give him a season high of 24 points.
In a
game this close, every possession was crucial for a win and strong rebounding by Jeremy Hausdorf and Anthony Kelly made key plays come together. Great
passes and strong defense by Brian Kelleher, James Reid and Fernando Ortiz helped to make this win possible. Outstanding rebounding and three points by Jamie Liebowitz played a major role in what was a great come-from-behind win.
