MIDDLE VILLAGE — A 39-year-old woman was sexually assaulted at about 5 a.m. Monday at 64th Place and 74th Street, police said.
Detectives in the Brooklyn and Queens Special Victims Squad believe the crime was part of a pattern in the 104th Precinct coverage area of Maspeth, Middle Village, Ridgewood and Glendale, and in the 83rd Precinct in Brooklyn.
Police say the attacker enters the homes of his victims through a rear window and demands sex. In three of five cases he displayed a weapon, and one time he stole money.
The man is described as a Hispanic or light-skinned black, 18 to 25 years old, 150 to 160 pounds and between 5-foot-3 and 5-foot-6 tall.
The latest attack is believed to be related to four others, including two that took place in the 104th Precinct area last February and November, police said.
Teen in critical condition after Middle Village attack
MIDDLE VILLAGE — A teenage boy was in critical condition after being assaulted at the corner of 80th Street and Juniper Valley Road by three people Monday, police said.
The 16-year-old victim was struck in the head at about 8:50 p.m. by one of his attackers, police said. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition.
Patrick Kiernan, 18, of 78-08 64th Lane and James Montefusco, 17, of 78-09 64th Place, both Glendale, were arrested and charged with assault in the attack, police said.
Police provided no information on the third person.
66-year-old missing woman from Astoria found in the Bronx
ASTORIA — An Astoria woman missing since Saturday was found Tuesday morning in the Bronx by police officers on patrol, police said.
Betty Sanchez, 66, of 20-75 26th St. was taken to Jacobi Hospital in stable condition, Officer Gary Cillo said.
She last had been seen at her Astoria home.
Two shot in the leg in Astoria argument
ASTORIA — Two men were taken to Elmhurst Hospital Saturday after being shot in the legs during a dispute at 34-11 Crescent St., police said.
The gunman fled the scene, police said.
Armed robber hits Ozone Park Radio Shack
OZONE PARK — An armed robber stole $246 from a Radio Shack at 113-20 Liberty Ave. at about 7:30 p.m. Monday, police said.
Police were searching for the robber, a man in his 20s.
Bystander at Corona fight dies from gunshot wounds
CORONA — A bystander at a street fight who was shot in the head early Sunday evening died from his injuries the following day, police said.
Jose Niola, 31, was struck in the back of the head by a bullet allegedly fired from the gun of Juan Nunez, 23, of 37-36 107th St., police said.
Nunez allegedly displayed his gun after arguing with another man on Roosevelt Avenue and 111th Street at about 6:10 p.m. Sunday, police said. When his opponent, who police said was wielding a knife, fled west along Roosevelt Avenue, Nunez allegedly shot once and struck Niola, who stood nearby, police said.
Nunez then fled the scene, police said.
Corona police cadet arrested after pot found in home: Cops
CORONA — A police cadet was arrested July 25 and suspended from the force after detectives found 59 bags of marijuana in her home, police said.
Dezonnee Jackson of 96-10 57th Ave. in Corona was charged with criminal possession of marijuana and criminal possession of a weapon after a search warrant recovered the marijuana and a 22-caliber rifle from her home at about 10 a.m., police said.
Jackson had been assigned to the medical division of the Police Department.
Livery passenger with gun steals cab
JACKSON HEIGHTS — A livery cab was stolen Saturday when a passenger threatened the driver with a gun and drove off with the vehicle, police said.
The driver picked up the passenger at the corner of 21st Street and 31st Avenue and took him to 74th Street and Northern Boulevard, where the passenger showed a gun and forced the driver to leave the car, police said.
Man takes $4,000 from bank in Jackson Heights with a note
JACKSON HEIGHTS — More than $4,380 was taken from a North Fork Bank branch in Jackson Heights July 25 by a man who passed a teller a note demanding cash, police said.
The man robbed the bank at 37-02 82nd St. at about 1:10 p.m. and then fled west on 37th Street, police said.
Woman says she was raped at Ditmars Boulevard hotel
EAST ELMHURST — A woman said she was raped Monday night after a man drove her to the Clarion Hotel at 94-15 Ditmars Blvd., police said.
The 22-year-old woman was taken to Elmhurst Hospital for evaluation.
Two SE Queens men charged with running car into L.I. cops
NASSAU COUNTY — Two Queens men were arrested Sunday after allegedly running into two Nassau County Police officers with a car, police said.
Police Officers Sal Maeillo and Sal Scalone were trying to break up a fight between two women which spilled out of the Planet Malibu, 485 Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont, L.I., when a 1997 Nissan drove toward the officers three times, striking them both the third time, Nassau County police said.
The car’s driver, Gary Liverpool, 23, of 249-24 148th Rd. in Rosedale and passenger Torrance Owens, 27, 146-01 181st St. in Jamaica were arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and two counts of assault in the second degree, police said.
The officers were treated and released from Mercy Hospital for cuts and bruises to their legs. Scalone also suffered a sprained back, police said.
Two teens charged in Jamaica J train robs
JAMAICA — The Queens Robbery Squad arrested two teens July 25 wanted for several robberies on May 29 on the J subway line at Jamaica Avenue, police said.
Luis Cruz, 16, of 184 Moffat St. in Brooklyn and a 14-year-old boy whose name was not released due to his age were charged with robberies committed at the Jamaica Avenue and 121st Street subway station, police said.
Police rescue three fisherman from jetty in the Rockaways
BREEZY POINT — Three fishermen were rescued from a jetty in the Rockaways Tuesday, police said.
Nestor Acosta, 38, and Mario Faris, 30, both of 104-13 Rosita Rd. in Ozone Park, and Pun Kin Lee, 40, of Brooklyn, had been fishing along the jetty when they misjudged the tide and found themselves stranded in the water, police said.
The NYPD’s Aviation Air Sea Rescue Team No. 12 and the Harbor Unit responded to the scene.
Rescuers recovered the men by using a sling harness lowered from a helicopter, police said. The men were treated at the scene by EMS personnel and did not require any hospitalization.
Two rescuers were injured. One struck his knee on the rocks and another injured his shoulder in heavy surf conditions, police said.
Both were taken to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.
25-year-old man shot in leg on Laurelton street corner
LAURELTON — A 25-year-old man was shot in the left leg by an unidentified shooter on July 25, police said.
The victim was shot at about 5:20 p.m. at 221st Street and Merrick Boulevard in Laurelton and treated at Queens General Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, police said.
No arrests were made at the time. Police were investigating.
Man with gunshot wounds walks into St. John’s Hospital
FAR ROCKAWAY — A 33-year-old man walked into St. John’s Hospital in Far Rockaway at about 1 a.m. last Thursday after he was shot in the right shoulder and right leg by an unidentified shooter, police said.
The victim was listed in stable condition, police said.
Veteran cop at 111th Precinct retires after 20 years with NYPD
BAYSIDE — The 111th Police Precinct in Bayside bid farewell to a 20-year veteran of the NYPD this week when Officer Mike Bonfiglio, coordinator of the precinct’s auxiliary police, retired.
Bonfiglio, who was with the precinct for two decades, worked to organize the auxiliary police, which often includes young people who volunteer their time, Community Affairs Officer Santo Elardo said.
The new auxiliary police coordinator, Officer Michael Desrochers, has been with the NYPD for 17 years, Elardo said.
