Boro’s Catholic officers meet in Queens Village

By The TimesLedger

The New York City Police Department’s Holy Name Society for Queens and Brooklyn held its communion breakfast Sunday at Antun’s after attending the 9 a.m. mass at Our Lady of Lords Church at 93rd Street and Springfield Avenue in Queens Village. The organization is a fraternal order of Catholic police officers.

After the service, the more than 1,000 members of the Holy Name Society — led by bagpipers — paraded the mile or so from the church to Antun’s. Officer Pete Dwyer, of the 105th Precinct and a member of the organization, said “it was a star-studded event” with the NYPD’s top brass participating.

He said the organization gave away a handful of high school scholarships for children of officers at the event, which has been taking place for many years at the Queens Village restaurant.

Dwyer said the event was “a good time to reflect spiritually” and with all that has happened in New York City over the past six months, it was good for everybody to get together.
