Welcome to the Point. The Point being College Point. Summer has really arrived. The free summer park programs began at MacNeil Park, sponsored by the Poppenhusen Institute and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreations, and funded partly by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, Queens County Savings Bank and Queens Surface Corp.
The first performance was the American Concert Band, which had numbers honoring all armed forces, show tunes, Big Band music and patriotic songs. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Performances start at 6 p.m. at MacNeil Park.
On Sunday, July 21, Savannah Sky will be performing country music. Sunday, July 28, Phil Costa’s Something Special Orchestra will perform the sounds of the big bands.
Children’s programs are every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at MacNeil Park House. On July 23 Greg Goldstein will perform “A Magical Mime Show.” On July 30 Heroes musical theme by TADA/Damen Rosen. Aug. 6 is the “Wolf,” performed by Tuckers Tales Puppet Theater. Rain site for adults’ and children’s programs is at the Poppenhusen Institute. Space is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Condolences to the family of Anne DiDio.
Happy birthday to Norman Hanlon.

Sabina says: Have a good time with your summer activities but don’t overdo to the point of exhaustion. Sit, eat good food, relax and don’t get dehydrated in the hot sun.
