Garden Schools extends home winning streak to 13 games

The first victory came on Jan. 21 against Kew Forest, 71-19. It took GS a little over four minutes to assume command of the contest, scoring the first 16 points before the Lady Jaguars could notch their first basket. The home team exploded for 30 points in the second quarter, with Monika Derrien’s (18 points) scoring 10 points.

The Lady Griffins put it into cruise control the rest of the way. Other top scorers were Yomna Nassef (15 points), Danielle Daley (12 points) and Laima Efremenkova (9 points). Natalie Goldman led Kew Forest with 12 points.

Last Friday GS defeated United Nations International School (UNIS, Manhattan), 55-26. Once again Garden took advantage of the scoring opportunities created by its defense. They streaked past UNIS, amassing a 34-13 half-time lead en route to the 29-point victory.

Garden’s Daley led all scorers with 16 points. Sophomore Melissa Prio notched 11 points and four rebounds. Katie Vogel chipped in with eight points. Efremenkova had an outstanding performance on both ends of the court, amassing four points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals. R. Hussein collected 11 points for UNIS.
