The child's uncle, Ivan Lata, was also walking with Lata and Alex and witnessed the accident, Newsday reported.Both victims were taken to Elmhurst Hospital where Lata was pronounced dead on arrival and Alex succumbed to his lung and liver injuries at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, according to police. Authorities said they are still searching for the driver, who may or may not have run a red light before striking the Ecuadorian victims.The accident happened just blocks from where Lata, her husband and Alex lived on 104th Street.
