Girl’s Ex Charged In Double Murder

The ex-boyfriend of a murdered Kew Gardens Hills woman has been arrested and charged in her stabbing death and that of her younger brother, police said.
Jin Cheng Lin, 23, a native of Hong Kong, allegedly killed the siblings, Sharon Ng, 21, and her brother Simon, 18, in their apartment on May 12 during a botched robbery.
According to police, the suspect, needing money to pay off a gambling debt, went to the apartment on 64th Avenue, knowing that Ng’s parents, who also live in Hong Kong, sent money to their children.
Lin, who discovered that his ex-girlfriend was not home, spent time with her brother. But after several hours, the soon-to-be victim grew leery and recorded his apprehension in an online journal.
“[The victim] made statements in an online journal that he was uncomfortable and wanted him [Lin] to leave,” Officer Jennara Everleth told The Queens Courier. “Those statements actually named the suspect, and that’s where the journal ends.”
Unsure as to what actually transpired in the apartment, police said that Lin attacked Simon Ng, bound him with duct tape and stabbed him in the chest.
When Sharon Ng came several home hours later, she too was attacked and murdered.
According to Everleth, Lin was taken in for questioning the next day. Officers “determined his statements were not very truthful,” and he was brought in again on Monday, when he confessed and was charged with capital murder.
