Joel Hamid, the 13-year-old honor student from Ozone Park who was reported missing by his parents on Friday March 3, has been found safe and sound by his family after an eight-day search in Manhattan.
Following a tip from a parent who knew Joel from Karate classes, his father Philip Hamid and other family members rushed into Manhattan on Saturday, March 11th to search for Joel at Internet Caf/s because of the boy’s interest in computers and video games.
The boy broke down in tears when he saw his father at the caf/ on 42nd St. between 7th and 8th Aves. The family had him checked at a local hospital where doctors said Joel’s physical condition was fine.
The family has admitted that an argument between Joel and his mother concerning household chores sparked his disappearance.
As of Monday March 13, Joel was back in school with his classmates preparing for the citywide math test.
