Coming off his two hour and thirty-three minute performance in the Boston Marathon, Jorge Real is seeking to defend his title in the 28th Queens Half-Marathon Saturday April 29th, beginning at 8 a.m. The race starts outside of MacNeil Park in College Point, goes through the streets of College Point and Malba and finishes within the park itself.
Real, 35, a Jackson Heights resident competing with the West Side Runners, has been running very well lately. During his debut in College Point last year, Real ran a 1:09.29 in an exciting finish, when he out-kicked Felipe Garcia down the stretch to win the 13.1 mile event. “We had our greatest race ever,” said race director Leo Nicholas.
The 13.1 mile event is conducted by the College Point Road Runners Club and the New York Road Runners Club. According to the latest figures, over 3,000 entrants will fill the streets of College Point and test the course in the third of five Grand Prix Half-Marathons in New York City throughout the calendar year.
Awards will go to the top three male and female finishers as well as to various age group finishers.
