Markey honors local women

Assemblywoman Margaret Markey honored nine local women with her annual ‘Women of Distinction’ Award at a ceremony that she held in her Maspeth office. Markey recognized their achievements by presenting the women with a state citation for their efforts in helping to improve their respective communities.
Community boards and civic groups within the Assemblywoman’s district nominated the ‘Women of Distinction’ honorees and the winners were selected for their dedication and service to an array of organizations.
The volunteer work these women have offered earned them this honor, contributing their time to assist local police precincts, senior citizens and helping at civic group functions.
“It is a privilege for me to be able to recognize these women for all that they have accomplished,” Assemblywoman Markey said. “These women represent some of the finest attributes members of our communities have to offer. The volunteer work they have done displays the dedication they have to their community.”
