The New York Mets treated children and teens in the summer reading programs from Brooklyn Public Library, The New York Public Library and Queens Library to a baseball game on Wednesday, August 23. Jake Nocerino, 9, was the Queens winner in a contest to choose a name for the cartoon dragon who was the summer reading mascot. Jake suggested the name “Libris.” [Jake is in the front row toward the left, wearing pin stripes.] The Mets have been supporting summer reading for more than decade. While the kids would have been thrilled to be at Shea under any circumstances, the Mets delivered a 10-6 win against the St. Louis Cardinals, making a memorable evening even better.
