Rivals finish in a tie

No matter the circumstances, the Battle for the Boulevard is always tense and hard-fought. When St. Francis Prep and Holy Cross meet, the yellow cards fly and the intensity soars.
The latest contest between the two teams was no different, although there was no winner in a 2-2 tie Thursday afternoon in Fresh Meadows.
Set up by Andreas Chronis, Alex Schweitzer got Holy Cross on the board first. But late in the first half, Mike Biordi got the equalizer. Schweitzer added another tally, again off an assist from Chronis with mere seconds remaining in the initial half.
The second half, the undefeated Terriers (6-0-4) came to the forefront, controlling play. Kevin Garcia tied the game, but despite dominant play, St. Francis was unable to get the go-ahead goal.
&#8220Well we played good basically the whole game,” Terriers leading scorer Eric Vasquez said. &#8220[Our] defense was not awake and fell a little at the beginning of the first half but during the second half we dominated the whole time on their (Holy Cross) side of the field. They only came once on our side when their defense kicked it out.”
&#8220It was tough physical game and had a fair result in the end. In the end they (St. Francis Lewis Prep) grounded it out,” added Holy Cross Coach Michael Bishop. &#8220It was a good game and I hope to see them in the playoffs. Good team and good game.”
