Rebecca Moran, Vice President, Hi Fashion Beauty
Rebecca Moran combines industry know-how and top-of-the-line customer service to make your experience with Hi Fashion Beauty the best it can be. Moran, Vice President of Hi Fashion Beauty, has been with the company for about nine years and has helped them to become one of the largest wholesale distributors of nail products in the tri-state area.
“We specialize in nail products,” Moran said. “We typically deal with nail salons, but we’re starting to have more nail techs and beauty school students come into our offices to buy products.”
Based out of Long Island City, Hi Fashion Beauty has been in the family since 1987 and has continued to grow throughout the years. Hi Fashion Beauty started out with only a small 500-square-foot office, but Moran said that when the business started her father was simultaneously trying to learn to speak English.
“I look back on it and can’t believe we did that,” Moran said. “When we started we really had nothing.”
Recently the company has expanded to a warehouse in New Jersey, and Moran says there are no signs of slowing down, as Hi Fashion Beauty will in the future look to cover all of the Northeast.
“Right now we’re content, but in the future we want to expand our offices into Connecticut and New England,” Moran said.
The company currently employs a diverse staff of 20 people, and Moran said they are trained in-house to high standards.
“All of our employees are bi-lingual to service the Korean and English speaking populations that are common to us,” Moran said. “They’re trained by us and definitely know what they’re doing.”
Moran, who is a Woodside native, attended junior high school there and attended high school in Brooklyn and Forest Hills. After college, Moran decided to join the company with her father because “he taught me a tremendous amount.”
Moran attributes her family as the biggest motivation, saying that because the business is family owned it keeps them close.
“My family is my biggest inspiration,” Moran said. “I’ve been working with my father for many years, and it’s a family business so the most important thing is that we stick together.”
However the biggest factor to her success, Moran says, is a cornucopia of factors centered around the founder of Hi Fashion Beauty, her father.
“A big factor is that we have a lot of good people working in our company,” Moran said. “Also my father is a very smart business man and he trained us very well to deal with customers. He’s a big factor to how the business has progressed.”
Although Moran said that she does enjoy her work, she didn’t hesitate to emphasize the challenges it poses not only in her occupational life, but her social life as well.
“I’m happy with my job, but there are always cons to having a family business,” Moran said. “It’s tough to go on a family vacation. Everyone does their own thing and it is very socially challenging.”
