Children's college scholarship art contest

Bob's Discount Furniture, a retailer with stores in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Rhode Island, has announced the beginning of the Third Annual Children's Scholarship Art Contest.
The contest has three entry age groups - 7 to 10, 11 to 14 and 15 to 18 - and will select three students from each category as winners. First place winners will receive a $5,000 college scholarship, second place a $1,000 credit for art lessons and third place $500 for art supplies.
This year, each age group has been given a theme for their submissions. For 7 to 10 year olds, it is &#8220My Favorite Vacation Spot.” The second age group, 11 to 14, must use the theme &#8220A Special Memory” and the final group, 15 to 18, has the theme &#8220The Perfect World.”
Registration for the art contest runs through January 7, 2007 and can be done by going to www.mybobs.com. The deadline to send in artwork is February 7, 2007. Artwork submissions, along with a copy of the online registration, can be mailed to Children's Art Scholarship Contest, Bob's Discount Furniture, 428 Tolland Turnpike, Manchester, Connecticut, 06040.
All submissions must be one dimensional and on nine by 12 paper. Any medium can be used. The pieces must also be matted and created only by the contestant.
There will be an art-show kick off party on March 10, and entries will be on display through March 31 at the Grade Arts Center in New London, Connecticut. Finalists will be selected on March 21 and an awards celebration will take place on March 31.
&#8220With school budgets so tight, our annual art contest is a great way to enhance a child's understanding and education about the creative process,” said Cathy Poulin, the public relations director of Bob's Discount Furniture. &#8220It gives them an extra chance to build-up their confidence as they create an original work of art and see it displayed in a professional setting.”
