Her dream comes true in Prom Contest

The Queens Courier is proud to announce that it has selected Ridgewood resident Jocelyn Cordova as the winner of the Dream Prom Contest.
As the winner of the contest, which was also sponsored by Studio Z, Oh So Dressy, A&S Whitestone Nursery, Howard Beach Tuxedo, and Azure Lingerie, Cordova and her date will receive a prom dress, tuxedo, hair styling, make-up, manicure, corsage, boutonniere and photos.
“This contest is the miracle I’ve been waiting for,” Cordova said in her entry. “Winning the contest will honestly make my prom unforgettable and certainly the best night of my life!”
Cordova, a 17-year-old student at Richmond Hill High School, said that the prom would have been a financial burden for her family. Her single father, who she said is disabled and has diabetes, takes care of herself and her two younger siblings.
Recently, Cordova said that she quit the softball team in order to get a job so that she could help with the family’s living expenses. However, she said that she would not be able to make enough to purchase a dress and “all the other requirements needed to have a great prom.”
Upon finding out that she was selected as the winner, Cordova, whose prom will be on June 6, said that she was very happy and that it meant a lot to her.
“We’re proud to be able to offer young people a chance to relish a special moment in their life,” said Queens Courier publisher Victoria Schneps-Yunis. “Being the mother of four children and a prom attendee, I remember that was one of the most exciting nights of my life so we’re delighted to add to someone else’s joy. I’m grateful to our participating businesses who are working to make the night so special for our winner.”
