Floral Park students give gift of warmth

Six students and two teachers from P.S. 172 in Floral Park visited Ronald McDonald House of Long Island recently, to bring bags of hand-made knit and crocheted blankets, pocketbooks, hats and scarves.
The seventh and eighth graders (front, from left) Sonam Bhandari, Tiffany Puntoompote, Sarah Valenzuela, Dhara Doshi, Lilian Zhang and Priyal Sakhiya are members of the school’s Crocheting Club, which meets one morning a week at the school. They regularly donate their some of their creations to charities.
The Tuesday, May 29 trip was supervised by teachers (rear, left) Debbie Schatt and Jennifer Bellamy.
Ronald McDonald House is a “home away from home” for the families of children undergoing medical treatment in local hospitals. The Long Island house is on the campus of Schneider Children’s Hospital in New Hyde Park, and serves the 5 boroughs of New York City, Nassau and Suffolk counties.
