A Rose is still a rose

The most popular baby names of 2006 in New York City are in, with Ashley and Michael in the number one spots of the list released by the Health Department.
Michael has been the top boys’ name since 1980. This marks a return to the number one spot amongst girls’ names for Ashley, which previously held the position from 1992 to 2002.
Coming in after Ashley on the list of the 10 most popular baby names for girls in 2006 are Emily, Isabella, Sarah, Kayla, Sophia, Mia and Madison. Also in the top ten were Brianna and Samantha. Mia and Madison were new to the list this year. Of the 125,506 female babies born in 2006, 61,233 were given one of those top ten names.
For the most popular boys’ names, Michael was followed by Daniel, Matthew, Joshua, Justin, David, Christopher, Joseph, Anthony and Jayden. This was the first year that Jayden was on the list. The top ten boys’ names accounted for 64,273 of the 2006 male births.
