Celebrating Polish Americans

Queens Borough President Helen Marshall (center) recently participated in a celebration of Queens residents of Polish descent.
“More than 200,000 Polish Americans live in our city and Queens is proud to be home for many of them in neighborhoods from Ridgewood and Glendale to Jackson Heights and the Rockaway Peninsula,” Marshall said.
The event, held at Queensborough Hall in Kew Gardens on Thursday, September 27, included performances by the 35-year-old Polonaise Dance troupe (pictured) and recognized the arrival of Polish settlers in America almost four centuries ago. Polish settlers arrived in Jamestown, Virginia 399 years ago, and the Queens celebration, featuring traditional song and dance, was organized in observance of Polish American Heritage Month in October.
