Yusef Bey, 22, formerly of 147-20 230th St., was found guilty in November of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the triple shooting outside IS 8 in Jamaica. On Feb. 24, 2004, Bey confronted Anthony Houston, 40, and his friend Terrance Burt, 35, outside the school on 167th Street and attempted to kill them in retaliation for the death of his brother, Shahada Bey, who was murdered a few months earlier, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.”The sentence imposed today is more than warranted and punishes the defendant for taking the law into his own hands. Vigilantism can never be tolerated in a civilized society,” he said in statement.Burt was shot twice and died, while Bey fired a bullet into Houston's hip and pistol-whipped him, according to Brown. Dermoth Cross, 27, was passing by and suffered a gunshot wound to his calf.Houston pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in March 2006 in connection with the death of Shahada Bey and was sentenced to 10 years in state prison, which he is currently serving, according to the DA.Reach reporter Ivan Pereira by e-mail at ipereira@timesledger.com or by phone at 718-229-0300, Ext. 146.
