Sylven Landesberg – Holy Cross

Sport: Basketball
Year: Senior

Another prolific week for Sylven Landesberg, the all-time leading scorer in Holy Cross basketball history. Landesberg led the Knights to a 2-1 record, beating St. Francis Prep last Friday and Xaverian Tuesday and falling to St. Raymond’s Sunday. The Whitestone native averaged 26.5 points per game in that span.

Tuesday, he was presented with a commemorative basketball from former Cross star Willie Dersch, the former scoring king at the Flushing school who graduated in 1996 and went on to the University of Virginia, Landesberg’s future destination. Landesberg broke the record last month at the City of Palms Classic in Florida. After the season Cross will inscribe his final career point total, now at 1,567.

“He’s certainly had a wonderful career up to this point,” Cross Coach Paul Gilvary said. “To the lead the Catholic league in scoring as a sophomore and as a junior is a really remarkable accomplishment. I think he’s probably playing better this year then ever before. It’s been fun to watch him develop as a player and as a person.”
