An obsolete switching station, hanging over the northern side of the #6 el on Westchester Avenue in Pelham Bay, is slated for removal.
The 2-story structure, which has been a longtime community eyesore, is now raining debris onto the streets below.
The station is housed in a structure, anchored to a V-shaped set of steel beams, extending out from the el over the corner of Wilkinson and Westchester avenues.
The green square box-like building houses a manual track switching station, which has been long obsolete. New technology, namely a new electronic track switching system controlled from a central location, has made NYC Transit look seriously at the station
