Forest Hills claims top ‘B’ seed

Two years removed from a six-win season, Forest Hills received the top seed in the PSAL Class B playoffs after going undefeated in Queens II-B under first-year coach Christina Sequeira-Ruiz. Led by the 12 wins and 1.63 earned run average of sophomore Kelly Mckernan, who also hit .511, and 25 runs batted in from junior Ashley Valentin, the Rangers went 17-0 during the regular season, their closest victory a 12-7 win over Grover Cleveland.
Flushing, Queens III-B champions, received the third seed; Jamaica received the sixth spot; Grover Cleveland No. 8; Springfield Gardens No. 11; and Long Island City No. 12.
In Class A, Bayside was awarded the fourth seed; Cardozo No. 8; Queens II-A champions Bryant were slotted ninth; Francis Lewis No. 12; Townsend Harris No. 19; Martin Van Buren 20; and Richmond Hill No. 21.
