Whitestone woman may win art competition

The Long Island Museum in Stony Brook has announced that Whitestone artist Diana DeSantis is a finalist in the museum’s juried art competition, “Summer on Long Island.”
Her oil pastel, titled “The Harbor at Northport,” will be displayed in the museum’s community room from Saturday, August 16 through Monday, September 1. It is eligible to be one of four winning entries to hang in the art museum.
The winning entries will hang at the museum gallery at 1200 Route 25A in Stony Brook, from Wednesday, September 3 through Sunday, September 21.
The contest winners will appear along with an exhibition of works from the Permanent Collection of the Art Students League of Long Island.
DeSantis and other local artists from across Long Island were invited to submit up to three works that best fit the competition’s theme of Summer on Long Island.
The museum will host an artist’s reception on Sunday, August 17, from 2 to 4 p.m., where all final entries will be on view and winners will be awarded.
Anthony Morejon’s woodwind trio chamber ensemble will perform classical music on flute, oboe and clarinet.
The Long Island Museum is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, considered to be our national museum, and is dedicated to art and history as it relates to Long Island.
The museum is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. Regular admission is $9 for adults, $7 for seniors and $4 for students from six- to 17-years-old.
