For the past four years, the Baglio family had been setting up a table to collect supplies to send over to the troops in Afghanistan and Iraq during its annual Middle Village block party.
Although traffic at this year’s table was a little slower than other years, the family collected some supplies and donations from friends and neighbors that Andrew Baglio, 65, will bring back to Massachusetts where he will mail them to a troop of military personnel serving overseas.
“My son used to be in the Air Force,” said Andrew’s mother Theresa Baglio who helped man the table for most of the Saturday, August 23 block party. Baglio said that her family has tried to collect supplies including toothbrushes, phone cards and other essential items to help those who are sacrificing so much for their country.
One of the people that stopped by the table was State Senator Serphin Maltese, who is an Army Infantry Veteran of the Korean War, and Maltese gave Theresa Baglio a check for $50 to buy supplies that her son would send overseas.
“She’s wonderful do it,” said Maltese praising the work that Theresa and her son Andrew have done during the past few years. “I know how important these care packages are to our soldiers.”
