Adelphi University opens new concert hall

The 500-seat acoustically state-of-the-art concert hall in Adelphi University’s new Performing Arts Center (AU PAC) will be inaugurated with the performances of Titans on October 24 at 7:30 p.m. and with a gala concert on Saturday, October 25 at 8 p.m., featuring great works of Ludwig van Beethoven and Gustav Mahler.
The Adelphi Symphony Orchestra, conducted by the Chair of the Department of Music and Grammy nominated composer Christopher Lyndon-Gee, and featuring world-renowned Australian pianist Geoffrey Tozer, will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 and Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in D major.
The program includes a performance of Intrada Cubana by Lyndon-Gee. Pre-concert festivities include music by the Adelphi Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of faculty member Dave Lobenstein. The Adelphi Chorus, directed by Michael Hume, will join the orchestra to open the concert.
This marks the 70th anniversary of Adelphi’s music department and the official opening of the university’s concert hall in the AU PAC.
The new and intimate concert hall is specifically designed for chamber ensemble, orchestral, and vocal performances, but also has the flexibility to fully support lectures and other public events requiring an advanced level of aural support. The hall includes an acoustically engineered stage shell, ceiling clouds, and motorized fabric walls, as well as a 42-by-29-foot deep stage, whose portable customized extension platform can immediately enlarge the stage to accommodate more than 100 artists. Equipped with a complete theatre lighting system, remote connections for television and film, and control room with professional digital audio equipment, the concert hall is poised to be one of Long Island’s premier venues, say school administrators.
Tickets for October 24 are $15 for the public; $10 for seniors (60 or over), faculty, staff, and alumni with a valid Adelphi ID; and $7 for students (limit one per ID). Gala tickets with a pre-performance tour of the new 53,000-square-foot facility (beginning at 7 p.m.) are $35. VIP Gala tickets are $70 and include the tour, as well as a post-concert champagne reception with an opportunity to meet the artists.
