Dedicated to finding a cure

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) held its third annual Brooklyn-Queens Board Golf Benefit in conjunction with the Aidan Tyler Foundation on Monday, October 6 at the Clearview Park Golf Course in Queens.
JDRF, the world’s largest charitable funder and advocate of Type 1 diabetes research was founded in 1970 by parents of children with Type 1 diabetes. JDRF has awarded more than $1.3 billion to diabetes research.
Type 1 diabetes is a serious disease that can unexpectedly strike children, making them perpetually dependent on insulin and requiring either constant injections or insulin infusion through a pump.
Unfortunately, insulin is not a cure and to this day, there is no cure. The mission of JDRF is to find the cure for all strands of diabetes and its complications through the only hope there is - research.
Walter Pericic, the 2008 co-chair of the event, has a son Aidan, who has been battling Type 1 diabetes since he was diagnosed at 11 months of age. Throughout the years, Aidan has benefited greatly by the research and dedication provided by JDRF.
Friends, family and supporters were all gathered at the benefit and silent auction in support of Aidan and many others battling Type 1 diabetes. In addition to the many supporters were Councilmember Peter Vallone Jr., Councilmember and Candidate for State Senate Jim Gennaro and Paul Vallone, candidate for New York City’s 19th Council District of Northeast Queens.
Vallone thanked all attending the event for their contribution in aiding those with diabetes and declared that a true testament to Aidan and all children in need was the amazing response received from this event.
